A Pit Bull, wandering in an orchard in California for over a year already, was found, thanks to the concerned citizens who posted pictures of the dog whose name was Mama on social media. That way, many people attempted to help her, although many had also failed in saving her – except for one.
Mama caught the attention of Danny Spanks. He came from an animal rescue organization, A Safefurr Place, and he was that sure that he wanted to take away Mama from the place she had gotten used to staying.
Spanks went to the area, and he first saw Mama inside a fenced solar panel enclosure. Spanks learned that Mama’s sleeping place was under the solar panels each night. During the day, Mama would sit somewhere she could barely be seen to be given food and drinks by people passing by. The thing was, Mama would only accept food from them and even from Danny but would run away the fastest she could right after getting the food.
For Spanks, giving up was not an option. He visited Mama every day in an attempt to win her trust. His hard work paid off slowly. Mama started to play with him, although he did not want to be touched still. Despite that, Mama grew closer to Spanks each day.
After three months of Spanks doing the same routine every day, Safefurr Place Animal Rescue discovered that Mama got abandoned last January 2019, five miles away from the orchard. What broke their heart more was knowing that Mama had only given birth to a litter of puppies and got dumped in a snap.
Having known the story behind Mama’s unusual behavior, Spanks strived hard to lure Mama into a cage. And on March 27, 2020, after one year and three months of being in the orchard, Mama fell into the trap. It might have taken Spanks months to move Mama out of that place, but he was thankful that Mama would already receive the love and care she deserved.
