This golden retriever performed a heimlich maneuver on his choking. There is one killer that we silently wish we would not encounter in our lives. But unfortunately, it surprises anyone who least expects it. Some victims have successfully wrestled with it, but some have failed to counter its surprise and deadly attacks. If you think that we’re talking about Jack the Ripper here, you are totally wrong. But this thing is as fatal as this infamous killer.
And what we’re talking about here is… choking.
When Debbie Parkhurst, 45, who lives in Calvert, Maryland, was eating an apple. A big chunk of it got stuck inside her throat, leaving Debbie gasping for air. Fearful of the situation, she hurriedly performed a Heimlich maneuver on herself. Heimlich maneuver is a first-aid procedure for dislodging an obstruction from the person’s windpipe. In which an immediate strong pressure is applied on the abdomen, between the navel and the rib cage.
She tried her best to beat her chest because she knows that it was a matter of life and death. No one in the house can possibly help her at that moment. But fortunately, she was wrong. While Debbie was fighting desperately for her breath, the only one who saw her distress was her Golden Retriever, Toby. Whom Debbie and her husband rescued from a trash can years ago.
Now, it’s Toby’s turn to offer his rescue. But what can he possibly do in this desperate situation? As surprising as it may sound, Toby did something unthinkable: he performed a Heimlich maneuver to his owner! But with a twist.
When Toby saw his owner in a desperate state, he quickly acted. Rushing towards Debbie and doing his dog version of Heimlich maneuver. Toby furiously jumped up and down on her chest until that chunk of apple inside her came out. He then licked her face to keep her conscious.
Dr. Doug Foreman, Toby’s veterinarian, shared that in his 22 years of practice. This was the first time a dog perform had done the Heimlich maneuver and dogs are not trained to do these kinds of things. Dr. Foreman can only give one explanation: it was a miracle.
Toby’s owner debbie and the vet are amazed by his impressive Heimlich maneuver. Once the media found out they wanted to know more about this dog. Since the heroic incident came out. Various media outlets in Great Britain and Sweden all rushed to be the first to invite this wonder dog. Popular shows such as The Today Show, Good Morning America, and The Late Night Show have also invited Toby.
But according to her owner, her hero dog is actually clueless with all the attention he is getting. Toby is happy and satisfied that he has saved her owner’s life from possible death. This is Toby’s way of thanking the family who saved him.
Debbie grateful, now has paw print bruises on her chest! Because it serves as a reminder of her Golden Retriever’s heroic act that literally saved her life.
