Soldiers from the United States who were previously deployed in Afghanistan formed a dog organization known as Nowzad. Nowzad came into fruition when soldiers from the Royal Marines met a loving dog during their mission in Now Zad, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The soldiers there named the dog Nowzad in honor of the place where the dog came from.
It was in 2006 when Nowzad became a recognized organization. The soldiers realized that more than humans in Afghanistan, dogs there also need help. The sergeant of the Royal Marine unit there befriended a dog that was previously used as a dogfighter. From then on, the sergeant and the other soldiers formed an incredible bond with the dog.
But since the soldiers’ deployment in Afghanistan is not forever, the dog is left under the locals’ custody. When Nowzad became an organization, more dogs received help in getting to the United States. Through the organization’s effort, some dogs in Afghanistan reunite with their soldier friends in the US.
The same assistance is now needed by this dog named Kandy. Kandy became friends with the Air Force Security Forces deployed in Afghanistan after the dog wandered near the soldiers’ barracks. After forming an incredible bond with one of the soldiers, Kandy became the soldier’s pet.
According to the other soldiers, Kandy felt at home because the dog’s partner showed kindness. Unfortunately, Kandy’s human died after a firefight broke between the soldiers and a group of extremists. The incident broke Kandy’s heart, but what made it more difficult is that the other soldiers had to go back to the US.
Nowzad is now in the process of helping Kandy find a new home in Wisconsin. The volunteers are calling on people to help Kandy realize her dream of a better life in a different country.
