One look at Elsa a stray dog and you know outright that there is something wrong with her. Her fur was almost completely gone, and her botched skin was showing. She was unkempt and dirty, and the type of dog that most people would run away from. She was also a huge dog that some would think that she was aggressive. But she was the exact opposite.
Elsa is a stray dog that roamed the streets of Romania. She also has a best friend, a smaller dog named Hugo. The two were often seen together foraging for food or just lounging around. Then one day, animal rescuers saw Elsa and decided that she was the type of dog that needed help.
Take my friend too
The rescuers were volunteers from Ray Animal Rescue. This is a Romanian welfare organization that rescues stray dogs and cats and offers free neutering. They also promote animal welfare. Raisa Giulia, one of the group’s founders, led Elsa’s rescue mission.
Elsa, along with a companion, went to the place where Elsa frequently stayed. They waited for the dog to show up. And when Elsa did arrive, they immediately went to her. True to her character, Elsa did not run away or show any aggression.
She was friendly with her rescuers, but she refused to go inside the vehicle. She would frequently look around as if she was searching for something. And after some time, her friend Hugo showed up. Elsa ran to Hugo and looked at her rescuers, seemingly saying to take her friend too.
It was if Elsa knew that she was being rescued. But she didn’t want to leave her friend behind. With both dogs now together, they happily hopped in their rescuer’s vehicle.
Their first stop was a vet’s clinic. Hugo was deemed fine, but Elsa had a terrible mite infestation. It was what was causing her skin condition. For two months, they had to give Elsa a medicated bath daily.
After six months, she was completely fine. Her fur had fully grown back, and she looked lovely. Hugo was adopted very quickly, but they had a more difficult time searching for a family for Elsa.
What they found was a foster who would take her in for the holidays. But when a family visited to see Elsa, the foster felt that she didn’t want to let the dog go. And when the family decided not to bring Elsa home, her foster decided to make her stay more permanent.
